The Misleading Unemployment Rate
MoveRight.TV’s Maya Boston addresses the issues surrounding the misleading U3 unemployment rate reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which at the beginning of 2015 was 5.7 % when the more accurate U6 unemployment rate was 11.3 %. She discusses how these rates are affected by the labor force participation rate which is at its lowest since 1978. Today, less than 63 % of working-age Americans are employed, while about 102 million are not.
